On a personal note

Psychology has always been a lifelong passion for me and will always continue to be. I believe that it is a privilege to work within this profession and be allowed into the lives of so many people. With regards to my view on therapy, I view it as a two way process; it is a space where my clients and I come together and co-create a sacred, secure space for meaning, insight and growth to take place.

On a professional note

I completed my Master’s degree in Clinical psychology through UNISA and obtained the degree Cum Laude. I have experience in the psychiatric setting (Weskoppies Hospital) where I worked with disorders of addiction, mood disorders (for example bipolar disorder and depression), anxiety disorders, personality disorders, neurocognitive disorders and various psychotic disorders. Following Weskoppies Hospital, I went on to work for the Department of Correctional Services, where I worked with both male and female offender populations. I also have experience in outpatient settings working predominately with substance addiction and mood disorders.

I have been trained and work predominantly within the systemic framework. The systemic approach highlights the importance of each client’s individuality and the value that a client holds in contributing to the therapeutic process. It allows me to incorporate aspects of various other treatment methodologies in order to ensure that my clients receive a therapeutic experience that is uniquely tailored to their needs.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy involves one-on-one sessions with myself and the client. Individual therapy does not necessarily need to take place in times of crisis or distress but can also assist an individual in personal growth and development. Individual therapy allows for a confidential, designated space and time for clients to explore and address their specific needs. I work with individuals aged 13 and older. My professional interests include, but are not limited to:

  • Depression
  • Bipolar
  • Anxiety
  • Disorders of addiction (for example; substances and eating disorders)
  • Adjustment disorders
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Schizophrenia

Couples therapy

Couples therapy involves joint sessions with myself and the couple. The length of a session is usually 60 minutes. Couples therapy aims to address the unique stressors and concerns that are being experienced by the couple when they come to therapy. It assists in improving communication, exploring patterns that may be problematic, and enhancing the strengths within the couple system.

Family therapy / Group therapy

Family therapy involves sessions with myself and various family members (depending on each family’s unique composition). Family therapy sessions last between 60 – 120 minutes.

Group sessions can be arranged upon request.
